This week there’s two beers in the spotlight, much like my wedding night. In fact, these two beers are the very same ones Lea (my wife) and I chose when we decided to give our guests a taste of our lifestyle four years ago.
Let’s begin with Funky Buddha’s Floridian. This Hefeweizen is exactly what one should expect when cracking open a Hefe, wheat forward, light, and not offensive to the palate. Lea chose this beer to share with our guests. At the time, Funky Buddha was still only available in Florida, and many of our out of town guests hadn’t ever tasted their product before. It was an immediate hit with the light beer drinkers.

Our next beer is Cigar City’s Invasion, a Tropical Pale Ale that gives you citrusy notes and enough hops to taste, but not enough to overpower. I chose this beer because I love Tampa, and Cigar City to me, is Tampa. While we lived three hours away we’d regularly head west to catch a band play, or a Lightning game, and typically stopped off to have some Cigar City Beer, when we weren’t at Taco Bus. When people think of Cigar City, Jai Alai is usually the first thought people have. I can’t blame them, it’s a fantastic IPA, but Invasion is and always will be the embodiment of Cigar City to me.
From the Old Pirate logo, to the new ships in the background, it reminds me of a night in Ybor where this Tropical Pale can really shine on a summer night.
